October 2026: Hunter's Moon - Twig Hoops
- Description
According to the Farmer's Almanac, "October’s Full Moon is traditionally known as the Hunter’s Moon —a name that reflects the seasonal shift from gathering crops to preparing meat for winter.
Following the Harvest Moon, fields are typically cleared, leaves have fallen, and animals are easier to spot in open landscapes. At the same time, game such as deer and other wildlife have fattened up over the summer and early fall, making this an ideal time for hunting.
The bright Moon rising soon after sunset provided extra evening light, allowing hunters to track game longer into the night. For generations, this was the season to hunt, preserve meat, and lay in a store of provisions to sustain families through the long winter months ahead.
Different cultures have given Full Moons descriptive names based on seasonal changes, natural events, and human activities. These names helped people track the year, plan agriculture, and mark seasonal transitions.
Other traditional October Moon names include:
- Drying Rice Moon: Dakota tradition, post-harvest rice preparation.
- Falling Leaves Moon: Anishinaabe name for the transition to fall.
- Freezing Moon / Ice Moon: Ojibwe and Haida names marking colder temperatures.
- Migrating Moon: Cree name marking southward bird migrations.
In some years, the October Full Moon is the Moon closest to the autumn equinox. When this happens, the October Moon is called the Harvest Moon and the September Full Moon is referred to as the Corn Moon."
DETAILS:
Switched things up a bit for this one!!! Usually, for a Full Moon piece, I always feature Rainbow Moonstones…
But the 🏹Hunter’s Full Moon called for a little something different. I recently found these rose cut Ocean Jaspers at the Denver Gem Show and I’ve been dying for the right moment to show them off!!
Inspired by the idea of hunting in the woods — The deep forest 🌲 greens and yellows remind me of Fall in Colorado and hunting season back home in Georgia. Evergreens and Aspens.
AND how cool are these sand casted twig hoops?!
I meannn come on!!!! So cool. It only took me 4x times to get these castings right, but it was sooo worth it. The twigs are most likely Siberian Elm, which are very common along the Front Range, or Chokecherry from my backyard cherry tree. I gathered them a while ago so I can’t be positive, but I definitely know they’re from Colorado🏔️
What’s even cooler??? Wait there’s more you say?! — These hoops can transform from forest dream DANGLES to EVERYDAY simple silver hoops by simply sliding off the Ocean Jasper charms.
Size: approximately - 1"D with 1" drop charms (removable)
Stones: Ocean Jasper - Rose Cut
Metal: .925 Sterling Silver
Finish: High Shine
Weight: One earring weighs approximately ~ 1 Dime + 1 Nickel
If you're in doubt about the weight of the earrings, I recommend holding the coins above in your hand to get a sense of the weight of one earring.
Large "medium weight" scrolls or nuts to help balance the weight of the earring with your earlobe. Although these earrings are slightly heavier than most designs I make, these beauts wear comfortably.
Stamped with Basecamp logo for authenticity
